WSU Secures Commitment from 3-Star WR Malachi Garlington, Strengthening 2027 Recruiting Class

PULLMAN — Washington State University has achieved a significant milestone in its recruiting efforts by securing the commitment of three-star wide receiver Malachi Garlington. The announcement came via social media on Thursday morning, marking a notable victory for the Cougars as they continue to build their 2027 class.

Garlington, hailing from Adrienne C. Nelson High School in the Portland area, turned down offers from various programs, including one from a Power 4 school and several future Pac-12 competitors, to join WSU. His decision adds to the Cougars' growing roster, which now features eight recruits.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 180 pounds, Garlington becomes the second wide receiver in this recruiting class, joining California athlete Adrian Barnett, who committed just two days prior. WSU has recently seen an influx of commitments, with three new recruits in the last four days, including tight end Owen Yurosek from Bakersfield High School.

In addition to his football prowess, Garlington is also a competitor in track and field, achieving several accolades this spring. He clocked a personal best of 11.71 seconds in the 100-meter dash and contributed to his 4x100 relay team, which earned top finishes. Notably, he excelled in the long jump, with a best mark of 21 feet, 10 inches.

His combination of size and speed made him a sought-after recruit, prompting Oregon to extend an offer just the day before his commitment to WSU. Although Garlington has not yet completed his official visit to Washington State, scheduled for later this month, his early decision reflects a strong affinity for the program, likely aided by the efforts of WRs coach Derek Sage.
