Xavier McKinney Shares Why He Chooses Green Bay for Offseason Living
Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney has a strong affinity for the city of Green Bay, opting to stay there during the offseason instead of relocating elsewhere. In a recent chat with Kevin Clark on ESPN, McKinney, who previously played for the Alabama Crimson Tide, explained his rationale for remaining in Titletown during the off months.
“Well, first of all, you don’t spend a lot of money here,” shared McKinney, who has amassed over $45 million in career earnings, according to Spotrac. Despite his financial freedom to live anywhere, he feels a sense of belonging in Green Bay.
Beyond the cost of living, McKinney appreciates the community's respect for his privacy. “People, they see me, and they know who I am, but I think there’s that respect level there of respecting my privacy,” he stated. This respectful atmosphere contributes to his positive experiences interacting with locals, whom he describes as not being overly intrusive.
McKinney began his NFL career with the New York Giants, who selected him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. After four seasons, he signed a lucrative four-year, $67 million contract with the Packers in 2024, which was later restructured. In his tenure with Green Bay, McKinney has recorded 10 interceptions, including eight in the 2024 season, along with 195 combined tackles and 21 passes defended in 33 games.
The decision for McKinney to remain in Green Bay highlights the unique bond that many players develop with the community, making it an appealing place for offseason relaxation and training.
