Bills' Rumored Target Released By Packers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Buffalo Bills centered some of their offseason efforts on revamping their secondary. They traded away Kaiir Elam and drafted Maxwell Hairston out of Kentucky in the first round.

A strong defensive backfield is a must in an AFC with such imposing passing game talent including quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes and receivers like Ja'Marr Chase and Tyreek Hill. The Bills are not empty-handed though, touting one of the best young corners in the NFL in Christian Benford.

Benford can only play one side of the field at a time, however, so the Bills have gone shopping for upgrades. The Hairston addition is noteworthy though the Bills had their eye on a veteran piece.

Buffalo previously engaged with the Green Bay Packers on a trade for Jaire Alexander but those talks fell apart. Now, their business partner has opened the door again for a union with the two-time Pro Bowler.

The Packers have released Alexander after failed attempts to re-work his contract or trade him. Packers President Mark Murphy addressed the decision, citing Alexander's absence from the lineup in recent seasons as a key factor.

“He has been a great player for us,” Murphy told Dave Schroeder of WBAY. “Obviously, elite talent. Unfortunately, just injured a lot. Unfortunately that’s a big part of the game.”

The Bills' stance on Alexander is unclear coming out of previous trade negotiations since they moved on. But without the barrier of another team standing in the way, it's certainly plausible they revisit his addition to the roster.

When available, Alexander is a top corner and PFF has him ranked as a top 10 player at the position ahead of next season. At the right price, the talent alone makes him worth consideration.

The Bills may not be the only team who poses interest in Alexander though Brandon Beane and staff may want to see how the market shapes up before overcommitting on a player that has not played a full season since 2019.
