Blockbuster multiplayer trade shakes up Patriots schedule in major way

An unexpected blockbuster trade between the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers shook the football world on Monday.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Steelers agreed to send safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round draft pick to the Dolphins for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick.
It's a colossal move that will have a direct impact on the New England Patriots' 2025 regular season schedule. The Dolphins are obviously a rival opponent that faces the Patriots twice a year, and the Patriots are slated to go head-to-head with the Steelers in Week 3 of the season.
That potentially creates an even tougher matchup for quarterback Drake Maye and the Patriots' offense early on the schedule. Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowler, will be joining a cornerback position in Pittsburgh with Darius Slay and Joey Porter Jr. already on the roster.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Steelers added another weapon for quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Smith. It's a major offensive move for a team that traded for former Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf in the offseason.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins' secondary will get a returning Fitzpatrick to help pester New England's offense on the backend. It's a major AFC shakeup that the Patriots will have to find a way to contend with right out of the gate.
Before facing the Steelers, they are slated to travel to South Beach to face the Dolphins in Week 2 of the regular season. The Dolphins and Patriots will then collide for a final time in Week 18 for the last game on the schedule.
