Dodgers Predicted to Part With Former Top Prospect Bobby Miller originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Just two years ago, Bobby Miller was the Los Angeles Dodgers' no. 2 prospect, a spot he held for two consecutive years. Boasting a high-90s fastball, Miller had explosive potential. MLB got its first glimpse of him in 2023, when he pitched to a promising 3.76 ERA. But since then, Miller has had a hard time in both the Majors and minors.

Miller has pitched a total of 61 major-league innings since the start of 2024, giving up 60 earned runs. In Triple-A this season, Miller owns a lackluster 4.14 ERA. Given the fact that Miller has struggled to find success as a Dodger, one might expect that he’s due for a change of scenery. This is one possibility that was thrown around lately.

When speculating on a recent article from MLB.com in which writer Sonja Chen labeled Miller as an “intriguing trade chip,” sports writer Patrick McAvoy floated the idea of flipping Miller for bullpen help or another starter. He had this to say about Miller in his article on The Sporting News:

“If the Dodgers are going to make a move, Miller would be an intriguing candidate because there surely is a team out there that will bank on his upside and attempt to fix him rather than focusing on the ugly numbers from the last few years. He's young and has upside. The Dodgers don't have time to wait around so maybe they could flip him in a package for a bullpen arm or a different starter to help in the short term.”

Miller isn’t the highly coveted trade piece he would have been two years ago. Any team that takes a flyer on Miller will do so, hoping to fix him. But as McAvoy notes, Miller still has a high ceiling, giving prospective trade partners something to work with. In the right package, Miller could still bring a worthwhile arm to Los Angeles.
