Fans' Choice: Vote for 910Preps Girls' Athlete of the Year for 2024-2025

As major high school sports awards continue to roll out, it's time to look at some of the best athletes who performed at a high level in the 2024-25 sports season.
Fayetteville-area public schools saw success among their players throughout the year, crowning three Jack Britt girls wrestlers as state champions, NCHSAA 3A football runner-ups for Seventy-First, 3A East runner-ups for Terry Sanford baseball and girls' basketball, and a girls' tennis title, along with a singles title for Drew Hedgecoe, and a host of track and field titles.
In the private ranks, Fayetteville Academy notched its first girls' lacrosse title in program history, while Freedom Christian softball and baseball teams took a trip to the state championship game, returning as runner-ups. Trinity Christian football also finished as state runner-ups after a second consecutive title run.
Now, it's your turn to choose. 16 student-athletes across the Fayetteville area are up for girls' athlete of the year. Here are the nominees for each and how they contributed to their squads this school year.
Sumaiya Aamound, Jack Britt (wrestling) — Aamound claimed one of three Buccaneer wrestling championships. She defeated Laney's Ay'Seante Ross in the 138-pound class.
Taylor Baggett, Gray's Creek (volleyball) — Baggett led the team with 332 kills (No. 6 in the NCHSAA 4A East), averaging 4.0 per set at a 41.5% clip. She also had 55 aces, 30 blocks, 192 digs and 233 service receptions.
Shea Bienieck, Cape Fear (tennis) — The Colts' all-time wins leader contributed to back-to-back dual-team state championships in 2021 and 22, and was named United 8 Conference Player of the Year after going 21-1 in No. 1 singles this season and leading Cape Fear to a 12-0 record in league play.
Danauje Brooks, South View (basketball) — Brooks, one of three 2,000-point scorers in the area, stood out in her senior season after transferring from E.E. Smith. The Kentucky State commit completed the year with a United 8 girls basketball Player of the Year award and finished second in points per game in the NCHSAA 4A East (26.6) and seventh in assists (3.9).
Pauline Bui, Terry Sanford (tennis) — Already a three-time state title winner, Bui added dual-team and singles state crowns this season to her doubles state championship as a freshman last season. The All American Conference Player of the Year went 13-0 in No. 1 singles matches during the regular season.
Amariya Green, Gray's Creek (softball) — The UNC Pembroke commit was a major force in the Bears' 22-4 season. Green led the team in batting average (.600), 23 stolen bases, 43 runs scored and five home runs.
Georgy Helmers, E.E. Smith (cross country, track & field) — In cross country, Helmers ran a program-record 18:09.30 in the 5k to win the All American Conference individual title as the league's runner of the year and helped E.E. Smith finish in second place as a team for the first time in school history. She was the top runner in five meets over the season, including a first-place finish in the NCHSAA 3A Mideast Regionals at 18:48.84. In track, Helmers took the 3A East girls' 3200-meter title with a 10:35.65 time.
Isabella Hernandez, Jack Britt (wrestling) — Winning the 126-pound weight class state championship, Hernandez defeated Havelock's Kennedie Snow.
Vanni Intini, Fayetteville Academy (lacrosse) — Intini became the only girls lacrosse player in North Carolina history to surpass 500 career goals and led the Eagles to their first title in program history.
Rylan Miller, Freedom Christian (softball) — The Marshall commit broke the Patriots' strikeouts and home run records this past season and led the team to a second consecutive NCISAA state title. Miller pitched to a 1.25 ERA, hit 9 home runs, scored 38 runs, and held a .414 batting average.
Sophia Ozanich, Jack Britt (wrestling) — Ozanich won the 165-pound state championship, defeating Westover's Jjais Roumo.
Jordynn Parnell, South View (basketball, softball) — Parnell, though a Duke softball commit, showed herself to be a true double-double machine after leading the NCHSAA 4A East in rebounds with 12.6 a game and 11 points. In softball, Parnell led the Tigers' to a United 8 conference tournament championship, breaking South View's all-time strikeout record. She tossed a 1.61 ERA, with a 10-5 record, and finished 18th in the state with 213 strikeouts.
Breonna Roaf, Terry Sanford (basketball) — Terry Sanford's "point goddess," Breonna Roaf, put on a historical senior season to put the cap on a once-in-a-generation career for the Bulldogs. The AAC girls basketball player of the year put on a show all season and showcased why she's one of the best passers in the state after averaging 7.9 assists per game for No. 2 statewide.
Kaylen Sykes, Pine Forest (soccer) — Pine Forest’s midfielder was named AAC player of the year and led the conference in goals with 21.
Kelsey Tart, Fayetteville Academy (soccer) — The UAB commit led the area in goals scored with 38 on the season, finishing sixth in the NCISAA.
Olivia Terranova, Terry Sanford (soccer) — Terranova made the AAC all-conference list and finished the season leading the 3A East in saves (291) which was also fifth in NCHSAA.
Voting will conclude on Monday, June 16 at 8 p.m.
