Grizzlies shake up frontcourt rotation by trading Jay Huff, signing Jock Landale | Report
The Grizzlies are shaking up their frontcourt rotation.
Memphis agreed to trade Jay Huff to the Pacers and will sign Jock Landale, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on July 5. The move gives the Grizzlies a more traditional option at center, which will be important because starter Zach Edey is expected to miss the start of the season after undergoing offseason ankle surgery.
Indiana will send a second-round pick and a second-round pick swap to the Grizzlies for Huff, Charania reported. Huff was signed to a two-way deal before the 2024-25 season and impressed enough at the start of the season to earn a full roster spot. He played sparingly throughout the season but often provided an offensive spark when he saw the floor. The 7-foot-1, 240-pound Huff could stretch the floor and shot 40.5% from 3-point range last season, but he struggled defensively.
Landale spent the past two seasons with the Rockets. He averaged 4.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game with Houston in 2024-25 but became a free agent after the season. He'll be in the mix with Brandon Clarke for rotation minutes at the beginning of the season while Edey is rehabbing his injury.
The Grizzlies have been active this offseason, signing Jaren Jackson Jr. and Santi Aldama to new deals and signing Huff's college teammate at Virginia, Ty Jerome, to a three-year deal. Memphis also signed guard Cam Spencer to a new contract.
Those moves came after the Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to the Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four first-round picks and a pick swap. Anthony is not expected to be on the roster for next season.
