Kobie Turner shares early impressions of Rams rookies Josaiah Stewart and Ty Hamilton

By the end of last season, the Los Angeles Rams’ pass rush was arguably the best in the NFL. Jared Verse, Byron Young, Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske were all dominant in the playoffs, helping the Rams record 16 total sacks in two playoff games alone.

They reloaded this offseason by selecting edge rusher Josaiah Stewart and defensive lineman Ty Hamilton in the draft, bolstering an already impressive defensive front.

The Rams have only been on the field for OTAs and minicamp this offseason but Turner has already been impressed by both rookies. During an interview with J.B. Long, Turner talked about Stewart and Hamilton, highlighting what’s stood out about them thus far.

He says in the reps he’s watched from Stewart, he’s “winning consistently” on the edge.

“I’ve been able to see Josaiah a little bit from afar, just watching that he’s going to work off the edges and he’s winning consistently, so I'm excited to see that come to life once we put on the pads, once we get into our packages,” he said. “I mean, we have multiple packages to put people into positions to win and last year, we had a package where we had Michael Hoecht as the third guy. It’ll be interesting to just kind of see what other situations will come up that will be able to use Josaiah and use his strengths.”

As for Hamilton, Turner has gotten a closer look at the rookie defensive lineman, being in the same position group. He’s seen “incredible” growth from Day 1 to the end of the offseason program, noting that Hamilton always stays after practice to get in extra work.

“And then I can speak to Ty, him coming out and him learning the way – we have a group that’s not vet-vet, per se, and isn’t super experienced. But we’re really experienced, like we know how to work,” he said. “And watching him continue to build up trust, watching him come in and stay after and get all the extra work that we do and to see how he’s grown from Day 1 to now is incredible. I’m excited to see the role he’s able to play and hopefully, have him help us win games on Sundays.”

Stewart and Hamilton both landed in excellent spots with the Rams. They may not have 10-year veterans to learn from at their respective positions, but players such as Turner, Verse, Fiske and Young all have fantastic work ethics. Turner has already begun coaching up Hamilton in practice, too.

They’re easy players to shadow, setting a great example for the younger guys on the team.
