Lightning set for 2025 NHL Draft with seven picks

The 2025 NHL Draft is set to take place Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. As of right now, the Lightning will hold seven picks.

Round 1 will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 27. Rounds 2-7 will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 28. ESPN and ESPN+ will provide live coverage of Round 1 on Friday. NHL Network and ESPN+ will air Rounds 2-7 on Saturday.

Last year, the Lightning made headlines at the draft by trading longtime defenseman Mikhail Sergachev to Utah in exchange for blueliner J.J. Moser and prospect Conor Geekie. The deal helped pivot the team in a new direction and cleared valuable cap space that was later used to sign forward Jake Guentzel in free agency.

Typically during the NHL Draft we see the general managers all convening under one roof. This year, the NHL is decentralizing the event for the first time, which means GM Julien BriseBois and other Lightning staff will operate remotely from Amalie Arena. BriseBois will be made available to media at the conclusion of the event.

The NHL invited the top 50 prospects ranked by NHL’s Central Scouting to attend the event in-person with their families. Other players in the draft class are welcome to attend.
