Manchester City begin their FIFA Club World Cup campaign against Wydad AC this evening.

The Citizens are bidding to win the trophy for a second time, having claimed Club World Cup success in 2023. Rodri was named winner of the Golden Ball at those finals and is hoping to feature after long-term injury.
Opponents Wydad qualified for the Club World Cup as winners of the 2021/22 CAF Champions League. Last season, Wydad finished third in Morocco’s top flight.

Pep Guardiola could hand debuts to several new signings this evening. Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouiri have all arrived at the Etihad this summer, alongside back-up goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.
City have a near full-strength squad to choose from with only Mateo Kovacic absent. The Croatian midfielder has been left at home to recover from a heel issue.
