Marine City baseball rolls past Lutheran Northwest in Division 3 regional semifinal

ALGONAC — In the postseason, there's no telling how many opportunities will come your way.
So, when one arrives, it's best to take advantage.
The Marine City baseball team did exactly that and retired Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest, 6-2, in a Division 3 regional semifinal at Dick Garrett Memorial Field on Wednesday.
Danny VandeVyver had two RBIs and one run for the Mariners, who improved to 23-10 overall and advanced to Saturday's regional final against Millington.
The Mariners' offense worked quickly in the top of the first inning. With the bases loaded, Paul Muscat drew a four-pitch walk to score the game's first run.
In the next at-bat, Emmett Hoski hit into a double play that sent VandeVyver home from third base.
That score held until the fourth inning, when VandeVyver added an RBI single to put Marine City up, 3-0.
The Crusaders answered by scoring on an error in the bottom of the fifth.
That didn't faze the Mariners, though, who responded promptly in the sixth with a pair of runs.
Tucker Volkman drilled an RBI single to center field and VandeVyver hit a sacrifice fly that scored Collin Gabler from third base.
Hoski tacked on an RBI single an inning later.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
