'Meatball' Molly moves to boxing: Former UFC fighter signs with Matchroom

While Molly McCann might be done with MMA, she's not done fighting.

On Thursday, Eddie Hearn announced that McCann officially has signed with Matchroom Boxing, adding that "some massive nights" await the former UFC star.

"Molly McCann will compete now as a boxer," Hearn said following the Jack Catterall vs. Harlem Eubank press conference. "About time, I'd like to say, as well, former ABA champion. Everybody knows the ability as a boxer. Obviously she's been a massive star within the UFC, built her profile globally, as well, and we're delighted to start the journey with her."

The announcement of "Meatball Molly's" venture into boxing comes less than four months after she announced her retirement from MMA following a quick submission loss to Alexia Thainara at UFC Fight Night 255 in London.

McCann, 35, made her UFC debut in May 2018 and fought 14 times for the promotion, posting a 7-7 record. Her popularity soared with the fanbase at the same time that Paddy Pimblett joined the UFC in 2021, with the two Brits often on the same U.K. cards, rooting each other on, and hyping the crowds.

While McCann has amateur boxing experience, she's never competed professionally. A date or opponent for her debut was not included with the announcement of her signing with Matchroom.
