Mississippi State's Peyton Bair, Ole Miss' Arvesta Troupe are NCAA track and field champions
Peyton Bair of Mississippi State and Arvesta Troupe of Ole Miss won national titles at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Bair was first in the decathlon on June 12 after runner-up finish in 2024. The junior scored a school record 8,323 points and won comfortably by 435. It was the 14th highest total in NCAA history and the 10th best at the NCAA championships.
Bair won the 100 meters (10.25 seconds), 400 (46.00), and finished in the top five in the long jump (fourth, 23 feet, 10 3/4 inches), 110 hurdles (fifth, 14.27 seconds) and javelin (fourth, 189-10).
In March, Bair won the heptathlon at the NCAA indoor championships. With the decathlon title, Bair is only the seventh male in NCAA history to win both in the same year.
Troupe set a new personal best of 7-5 1/4 to win by nearly three inches in the high jump on June 13 under windy conditions. He is the first NCAA champion from Ole Miss in the high jump.
Troupe, who is from Fulton, was a standout athlete at Itawamba Agricultural, playing football, basketball, baseball, along with track and field. He was a walk-on to start his career at Ole Miss.
He remains second in school history in the high jump behind Olympian Ricky Robertson (7-7 1/4, 2012).
