Mitchell 18U baseball picks up pair of wins at Marshall (Minn.)

Jul. 2—MARSHALL, Minn. — Warming up for an Independence Day weekend tournament, the Mitchell 18-and-under baseball team collected two wins over the Marshall (Minn.) American Legion squad on Tuesday.

Mitchell took Game 1 by a 2-1 score before posting a 5-0 shutout in Game 2 and has now won three of its last four games.

In the first contest, Carter McCormick tallied three hits and came around to score one run on an error, as Brayden Reindl and Canon Moller each added two hits. Reindl also scored the second run, driven in by Kaiden Allen. Tyler Christensen earned the pitching win, going 6 2/3 innings while allowing four hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Jaxson Hartman was credited with a one-out save.

The trio of Jacob Ebert, Allen and Brennen Penne combined to blank Marshall in the second game, with Allen getting credit for the pitching win after hurling three innings in relief. Allen also tacked on two hits, one run batted in and one run scored to his tally. Ian Weber and Christensen also had one RBI each.

Mitchell 18U (5-4) makes the trip to Jamestown, North Dakota, for a tournament July 4-6.
