Mitchell's Brooks and Kendall Aadland take first at SDGA Junior Tour event in Brandon
Jul. 2—BRANDON, S.D. — Victories from Mitchell's Brooks and Kendall Aadland led the way at the South Dakota Golf Association's Junior Tour stop in the Southeast Division on Tuesday.
Brooks Aadland fired a nine-hole score 3-over 39 in the boys under-9 division to secure the title at Brandon Golf Course, picking up a birdie on the par-3 No. 4 hole. Kendall Aadland shot a nine-hole score of 51 en route to the girls 10-11 division championship, defeating Brandon's Madelynn Lahren by two strokes.
Winner's Trigg Haiar scored a 13th-place result in the boys 10-11 division, firing a nine-hole round of 53. Canistota's Duke Stofferahn was 15th after shooting a 54. Sioux Falls' Jameson Stevens birdied two of his first five holes to win the division title with a 2-over 37.
Irene's Ellie Olson was the other nine-hole division champion, winning the girls under-9 title following a 59.
In the 18-hole divisions, Mitchell's Emma Reinesch posted the top area result with a 94 across Brandon Golf Course's par-71 layout, good for third place in the girls 12-13 division, won by Vermillion's Brynlee Baedke with a score of 89.
Mitchell product Everett Morrison paced the area boys finishers, coming in fifth in the boys 16-18 division after firing a 2-over 73, finishing with a birdie on the course's front nine. Sioux Falls' Jalen Dwire birdied four holes on his way to the division championship, shooting a 1-under 70.
Griffin Lyle, of Mitchell, was ninth in the boys 12-13 division, shooting an 87. Brandon's Teddy Krivarchka fired an even-par round of 71 to win the title. Tyndall's Michael Branaugh shot an 89 en route to finishing in 27th in the boys 14-15 division, won by Sioux Falls' Drew Velasquez with a 2-over 73.
Other champions include Sophia Holt shooting an 84 to win the girls 14-15 division and Wentworth's Jaydn McDonald firing a 6-over 77 en route to the girls 16-18 division crown.
PIERRE — In Monday's Northeast Division stop on the junior tour, Winner's Lincoln and Zoey Ziegler came away with top honors at Hillsview Golf Course.
Lincoln Ziegler won the boys 10-11 division championship following a nine-hole score of 44, defeating Miller's Jake Pugh by one stroke. Zoey Ziegler was the girls under-9 division winner with a 57. Pierre's Lowen Kulesa won the boys under-9 championship after shooting a nine-hole score of 42.
In the 18-hole divisions, Oacoma's Chase McQuirk posted a runner-up finish in the boys 16-18 division, firing a 6-over 78 against Hillsview's par-72 layout, only bested by division champion Bryson One Star of White River's 5-over 77. Presho's Canyon Garnos was eighth after shooting a 92.
Chamberlain golfers Brayden Kriel and Briggs McDonald finished in 16th and 18th, respectively, in the boys 14-15 division. Kriel shot a 101 while McDonald posted a score of 112. Fort Pierre's Tate Stoeser shot a 6-over 78 en route to winning the division championship.
Agar's Beckham McPeck won the boys 12-13 division with a round of 80, Aberdeen's Genevieve Golz shot an 85 en route to the girls 12-13 division title and Aberdeen's Mackenzie Wegehaupt shot an 88 to win the girls 14-15 division.
The next SDGA Junior Tour event is on Thursday, July 3, at Brookings Country Club.
