Packers release CB Jaire Alexander, sending Dolphins social media aflame

Following news on Monday morning that the Green Bay Packers have released veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander, Miami Dolphins' social media was rife with reactions. Alexander, who has injury history, played in just seven games in each of the last two seasons, missing a total of 20. In 2021, Alexander saw just four games of action.
Without being able to find a trade partner for Alexander, who will enter his eighth season in the NFL at age 28, Green Bay cut bait, and the news immediately resonated with Dolphins fans on social media. Miami has their own issues with a veteran cornerback, as Jalen Ramsey will not show up to minicamp, and should be officially off the Dolphins in the next few days or weeks.
While many would welcome the addition of Alexander now that trade compensation doesn’t have to be factored in, the Dolphins do have a young and unproven cornerback group. However, with Alexander’s medical history, and the seemingly ‘rebuilding’ mindset in Miami, could the Dolphins hold, and simply work with what they have in the room?
That room at this moment, consists of 2023 second-round selection Cam Smith, and nearly half a dozen undrafted free agents from the last few years including slot specialist Kader Kohou and boundary corners in Storm Duck, Ethan Bonner, Isaiah Johnson, and 2025 UDFA BJ Adams. Miami also spent a fifth-round pick on Jason Marshall Jr. and signed veterans Artie Burns, Kendall Sheffield, and Ryan Cooper Jr for camp competition.
Clearly a unit that needs more experience, a player’s best ability is their availability. Alexander is a two-time Pro Bowler from the 2020 and 2022 seasons, and was set to make $37M across the next two seasons if he remained with Green Bay, and his release will cost the Packers $7.5M in 2025 dead cap money, and $9.5M in 2026.
Should Miami general manager Chris Grier make the call to Alexander is anyone’s guess at this time, but social media sounded off across the fan base with varying opinions.

The #Packers are releasing CB Jaire Alexander, who had 2 years, $37M remaining on his contract. The 28-year-old earned over $72M in 7 seasons with Green Bay, leaving behind dead cap hits of:

Does Jaire Alexander being a free agent devalue the Ramsey trade?
If you’re a team in the Ramsey sweepstakes and guy that will probably cost less, younger, and won’t cost a draft pick comes available, what’s stopping you from putting a pause on trade talk?
If so, Miami may…— Ghost of Adam Gase (@GhostOfAdamGase) June 9, 2025
If you have even once in your life complained about Dolphins players being hurt all the time, don't even think the question in your head. https://t.co/6rXcFKB6wQ— Kyle Crabbs (@KyleCrabbs) June 9, 2025
Jaire Alexander makes a ton of sense for the Dolphins. Very good player and often injured, fits right in with what Chris Grier loves. That being said Miami clearly has shown they don't want to spend money this off-season, so we shall see.— Daniel (@DanielEliesen) June 9, 2025
Might be awkward for Tua Tagovailoa if Jaire Alexander joins the Dolphins 🤣

Jaire Alexander has arguably been the best CB in the NFL since being drafted in 2018 (others better at various points, but Jaire one of the best over that time period).
But, he's played more than 600 snaps just once in the last four seasons— Steve Palazzolo (@StevePalazzolo_) June 9, 2025
Dolphins Twitter wanting a guy they have clearly done no research on. Jaire Alexander has missed 10 games in each of the last two years but yes let's sign ANOTHER injury riddled player. Too funny.— David Fischer (@DavidFischer_71) June 9, 2025

If the Dolphins sign Jaire Alexander, everyone deserves to be fired. He’s played in a total of 14games the last 2 years.— Sean House (@SeanHouse90) June 9, 2025
Miami Dolphins just got a GIFT from the Packers with Jaire Alexander being released!
Should Miami sign Jaire?

Jaire Alexander and Chris Grier are perfect match. Injury Prone Big Name DB + Shithead GM that should have never been hired = Another Disappointment— SoapBoxMox (@SoapBoxMox) June 9, 2025

Obviously an upgrade over anything Miami has with Ramsey out, but he has a problem when it comes to staying healthy,— Todd Jentink (@TAJJRoneandonly) June 9, 2025
