50 days till Arizona Cardinals' opener: Remembering the 1950 season

We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Saturday, July 25, is 50 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.

With 50 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 1950 season for the Cardinals.

A look back at the 1950 season for the Cardinals

In 1950, the Cardinals finished fifth in their division. They finished the season 5-7 after starting the year 3-3.

Four times they were limited to seven or fewer points. They averaged 19.4 points per game, which was ninth in the league (out of 13 teams). They allowed 23.9 points, seventh in the league.

The Cardinals had six players in the very first Pro Bowl.

• QB Jim Hardy

Hardy started eight of the Cardinals' 12 games. He passed for 1,636 yards, 17 touchdowns and a league-leading 24 interceptions. It was still good enough for a Pro Bowl.

Harder led the team with 454 rushing yards, but Charley Trippi wasn't far behind him with 426 yards. Angsman also rushed for 362 yards.

Shaw had 48 receptions for 971 yards and a league-leading 12 touchdowns.

Hardy also served as the team's punter and Harder was the team's kicker.

On defense, Jerry Davis had nine interceptions.
