While many of the remaining matches at the 2026 World Cup involve two European teams, the matchup of Argentina vs. Switzerland is one of the few exceptions.

Argentina and Switzerland are not familiar foes, due to being in different UEFA and CONMEBOL organizations. Throughout their soccer history, they have met seven times. Argentina is undefeated across all competitions with a 5W-2D-0L record against the Swiss.
The two haven't met since 2014, when Argentina downed the Red and White 1-0 in Brazil. Five of their seven matches have come from international friendlies, and Switzerland has not salvaged a point against the Argentinians since 2007.

Last Argentina vs. Switzerland match
Argentina and Switzerland's last meeting came at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. In the Round of 16, the South American and European sides matched up in a low-scoring affair.
During the first half, Argentina struggled to find paths through Switzerland's five-man midfield, and it was the Swiss who produced the best chances to start the match. Argentina ended regulation time with a couple of big chances thanks to Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi, but could not convert on either.
In the 118th minute of the match, with about two minutes to go before a penalty shootout, Messi led his team down the pitch by weaving through defenders to set up winger Angel Di Maria with a pass to his left foot. Wasting no time at all, Di Maria curled it across the net and into the bottom corner of Switzerland's net for the match's lone goal.
