Arizona Cardinals offseason roster dominated by 3 schools

There seems to be a little bit of a running joke about the Arizona Cardinals and Ohio State players, as they have drafted two players from Ohio State and their roster seems to be full of former Buckeyes. That is the case, as that school has the most players on the roster.

However, the Cardinals' roster is dominated by three schools in particular — Ohio State, Ole Miss and Auburn.

Fifteen of the 91 players on the roster come from those schools. Ole Miss, though, is rallying, as three are rookies.

Here is the breakdown.

Ohio State players on roster

The Cardinals have six former Buckeyes:

• OLB Baron Browning
• CB Denzel Burke
• OL Josh Fryar
• WR Marvin Harrison Jr.
• OL Paris Johnson
• LB Cody Simon

All six started games last season. All six likely will make the roster this year, which is why we quickly associate Ohio State with the Cardinals. But they only lead by one player.

Ole Miss players on the roster

There are five former Mississippi Bulldogs on the roster. Four were added this year and three are rookies.

• DL Walter Nolen
• WR Harrison Wallace III
• OL Jayden Williams
• S Wydett Williams Jr.
• TE Kenny Yeboah

Nolen was the Cardinals' first-round pick last year Jayden Williams was their seventh-round pick this year. Wallace and the other Williams signed as rookie free agents, while Yeboah was a spring free agent addition.

Only Nolen is certain to make the final roster.

Auburn players on the roster

Auburn quietly has four players:

• TE Rivaldo Fairweather
• LB Austin Keys
• LB Eku Leota
• LB Owen Pappoe

Only Pappoe has played in any games for the Cardinals. None of them are locks to make the final roster.

Schools with 3 players

Four other universities have three Cardinals on the roster:

• Iowa: LS Casey Kreiter, LB Karson Sharar, WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette
  • Kreiter will make the roster and Sharar might. Smith-Marsette is a longshot.
• Penn State: P Blake Gillikin, CB Kalen King, DL P.J. Mustipher
  • Maybe two will make the team.
• Stanford: WR Simi Fehoko, TE Elijah Higgins, WR Michael Wilson
  • All three could and probably will make the team, or will at least play for the Cardinals this season.
• Texas: OL Hayden Conner, WR Devin Duvernay, OL Christian Jones
  • Duvernay might be the only one to make the team.
