Arsenal ‘pushing’ to beat Barcelona to Julian Alvarez transfer

Arsenal are reportedly “pushing” to beat Barcelona to Julian Alvarez and are hoping to get a transfer wrapped up before the Gunners start pre-season later this month.

According to The Independent, the Gunners want to wrap up a deal for the Argentina international quickly as “competition for the player looks to have regressed.”

The report adds that while Alvarez would prefer to stay in Spain, he is “open” to returning to the Premier League and moving to Arsenal.

Atletico really don’t want to sell Alvarez to Barcelona, which may give Arsenal hope of winning the race for his signature, while Paris Saint-Germain’s interest appears to have waned.

Barcelona are thought to be ready to make a new offer for Alvarez after the World Cup, but it’s still not clear if they will be able to reach an agreement with their La Liga rivals Atletico.

Alvarez has said publicly he thinks a “transfer is best for everyone” and is thought to favor a move to Barcelona, but Arsenal certainly don’t appear to have given up hope of signing the Atletico star this summer.
