The Athletics placed infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer on the 10-day injured list after the 23-year-old first-year major leaguer had to have emergency surgery on a ruptured testicle following the A's-Diamondbacks game on Monday, July 20.

Kuroda-Grauer was resting comfortably after the procedure at Phoenix's St. Joseph's Hospital.

Kuroda-Grauer accidentally fouled a pitch off his groin area in the top of the fifth inning on Monday. He went down quickly in pain and had to be attended to, then got up and stayed in the game momentarily, lining a single in the same at-bat.

But he couldn't stay in the game, and it was announced late in the game that he left with a testicle contusion.

Kuroda-Grauer had earlier homered in the game and was batting .404 (23 for 57) in his first 15 major league games since being called up on June 29 from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Diamondbacks LHP Kohl Drake (MLB debut) vs. Athletics RHP Jack Perkins (2-5, 6.87).

At Chase Field: The Diamondbacks announced that Drake would start after Monday night's game, in what will be his major league debut. He has had a disappointing season in Reno (6.92 ERA in 66⅓ innings) but has been a little better of late (4.70 ERA in his past six outings) and made his first relief appearance of the season in his most recent outing. Drake was part of the Merrill Kelly trade in July 2025 with the Texas Rangers. … Perkins, one of the Athletics’ better pitching prospects in recent years, has bounced between starting and relieving this season. Neither has gone well. He had a 5.46 ERA in 17 relief appearances through May and a 8.19 ERA since the start of June, with all but one of those outings coming as a starter. … His pure stuff is loud, starting with a fastball that averages 95.9 mph. He racks up whiffs with his sweeper and changeup. … His first career start came against the Diamondbacks last year, in which he gave up four runs in three innings.
