Austin Forkner retires from SuperMotocross, effective immediately
Austin Forkner announced he will retire from SuperMotocross, effective immediately.
"I am retiring as of now, or as of I guess a week and a half ago when I made the decision," Forkner said on social media. "I'm sure some of you are wondering why I wasn't a RedBud."
Forkner has battled an arm injury for which doctors are unable to identify a cause or recommend a course of treatment.
"After my crash in Colorado, I feel like it's time," Forkner continued. "So one of the main reasons, one of the big reasons is my arm. ... I've lost all of the muscle all the way up into my tricep, into the back of my shoulder. I've lost [muscle] down into my hand. All of this is just gone. Started a few years ago, four or five years ago. I've had three surgeries on it. I've seen some of the best neurologists in the country. The last surgery I had on it was from the dude who fixed Roczen's arm up in Vail, and nothing's really made it better."
Forkner was one of the top dirt bike racing prospects from 2018 through 2020, when he finished in the top five during three consecutive Monster Energy Supercross seasons.
Forkner has not finished among the top 10 in either supercross or motocross since 2023. most often because of seasons abbreviated by injury.
