Austin Nye leaves Vanderbilt baseball vs Arizona after one inning
Austin Nye left his start for Vanderbilt baseball vs Arizona after just one inning on Feb. 28.
The reason for his departure was not immediately clear.
Nye retired three of the four batters he faced in the inning with one strikeout. He threw 15 pitches.
Wyatt Nadeau, the hard-throwing freshman, replaced Nye.
In the 2026 season so far, Nye had a 0.00 ERA in his two starts, spanning nine total innings. He had struck out 12 and walked two in his previous two starts. In 2025, he put up a 3.55 ERA in 15 starts, mostly in midweek games.
No. 22 Vanderbilt (7-3) is playing in the Live Like Lou Las Vegas Classic.
Nye is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the 2027 MLB Draft. He was ranked the No. 33 college prospect in that draft by D1Baseball.
