Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Austria international Xaver Schlager, with the experienced midfielder arriving on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at RB Leipzig.

The 28-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the City Ground, becoming Oliver Glasner's first signing since taking charge of the club ahead of the new Premier League season.

Schlager spent the past four years with RB Leipzig, where he established himself as a key figure and served as vice-captain. Before his move to Leipzig, he enjoyed successful spells with Wolfsburg and Red Bull Salzburg, winning four Austrian Bundesliga titles with the latter. He also previously worked under Glasner during their time together at Wolfsburg.

The midfielder arrives after representing Austria at the 2026 World Cup, where he started all four of his country's matches. With 55 international caps to his name, Schlager adds experience and leadership to Forest's squad as preparations continue for the new campaign.
