Bayern Munich News: Vincent Kompany in a pickle with attack; FC Bayern rejects bid for young attacker; and MORE!

The World Cup is not being kind to Bayern Munich for various reasons, but that is the price to be paid when you have a star-studded roster.

As such, the people who already bought tickets for Bayern Munich’s preseason games in Asia are like to be very disappointed:

Vincent Kompany is facing a problem in the attack. For the season opener (July 20), none of the forwards will be properly fit, just as little in the training camp at Tegernsee (July 27-30): Kane, Olise, Díaz, Saibari (all long at the World Cup), Karl, Gnabry & Musiala (rehab).

Whether Kane, Olise, and Díaz will join the Asia tour (August 1–8) depends primarily on their vacation after the World Cup – it’s possible that the trio will only arrive in Munich afterward. Kompany wants to give them sufficient recovery for the upcoming season.

It would be shocking if Kane, Olise, and Díaz went on the tour of Asia. In 2018, none of the World Cup players made the trip to North America for the International Champions Cup, which shows the club does value rest for its players.

As someone who attended the Bayern Munich vs. Juventus game on that very rainy night in Philadelphia back in 2018, buying tickets for preseason tours during World Cup years always carries a risk. This author enjoyed getting to see Arjen Robben, David Alaba, Javi Martinez, Sven Ulreich, Franck Ribéry, and a very young Josip Stanišić live; there was also a whole lot of Meritan Shabani, Ryan Johansson, Renato Sanches, and Paul Will.

Anyway, with Bayern Munich’s star trio having such good chemistry already, some extra rest will only serve them well later on when the action really starts to heat up.

As for the other attackers, well, they just need to get healthy. What does that all mean? Get ready to see a whole lot of Arijon Ibrahimović.

ICYMI: Bayern to open vs. Stuttgart (FCBayern.com)

During all of the hype and excitement of the World Cup, you might have missed the details for Bayern Munich’s season opener:

The opening date for FC Bayern’s title defense in the Bundesliga has been set: On Wednesday, the Bundesliga eV published further details of the schedule for the 64th season of the top flight. According to the schedule, the reigning German champions will host VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena on Friday, August 28 (8:30 p.m.). The match will be broadcast live on pay-TV channel Sky and on free-to-air channel SAT.1.

Spurs to get Leão? (ESPN)

Tottenham Hotspur could take a run at former Bayern Munich transfer target Rafael Leão:

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a deal for AC Milan winger Rafael Leão after being informed that he would be open to joining them, according to TEAMtalk. Spurs have started working on a deal after holding initial discussions with the 27-year-old’s representatives, and the Portugal international is keen to play in the Premier League. Saudi Pro League clubs have also shown interest. Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona have all been approached, with the three clubs showing an interest in Leao but not making him a priority.

Bayern rejects Lazio’s bid on Asp Jensen (Gianluca DiMarzio via @iMiaSanMia)

Lazio made an offer to Bayern Munich for Jonathan Asp Jensen, but the Bavarians rejected it as they prefer an outright sale rather than a loan with an option to buy structure:

Bayern have rejected Lazio’s offer for Jonathan Asp Jensen (loan with option/obligation to buy). Bayern want an immediate permanent transfer. Udinese and Deportivo La Coruña are offering that. The player has an agreement in principle with Lazio, but the deal has stalled.

Shearer says NUFC got good deal for Tonali (Betfair)

Alan Shearer thinks Newcastle United did some good business with its sale of Sandro Tonali.

“I’m okay with Tonali leaving. As I previously said on this saga, if Newcastle set their fee at three figures and stick to it then that is fine and that’s what they’ve got. I don’t think he had a great season last season. We didn’t see the Tonali we saw the season before, because he was incredible the season before,” Shearer told Betfair. “I thought by his own high standards, he didn’t hit those heights last season at Newcastle. So, to get that much money for him, I think it’s good. I think it’s a good deal for Newcastle.

“They now have to spend that money wisely. By all accounts, they’re going for young, hungry players in terms of £30-or-40-million-pound deals. So, if that’s the case, then I’m okay with it.”

Barcola says Olise “creates danger” (M6 via @iMiaSanMia)

France star Bradley Barcola said that his teammate, Michael Olise, just “creates danger” on the field — and we cannot disagree:

Bradley Barcola on Michael Olise: “He’s a genius. He creates danger with every touch of the ball.”
