Bengals predictions include wild Cowboys, Super Bowl scenario

When it comes to NFL predictions involving the Cincinnati Bengals, things are all over the place right now as training camps get underway. 

Maybe that isn’t so shocking. The Bengals are a hard team to project, in part, because Joe Burrow’s availability has been unpredictable over the last few years.

And while the all-in offseason moves like Dexter Lawrence were great, there are questions as to whether coordinator Al Golden can pull it all together in a way that produces a strong unit. 

For every down projection, though, there’s a positive one, too. For example, SB Nation’s Jarrett Bailey issued season-long predictions and has the Bengals going to the Super Bowl. 

One hiccup in the projections for the Bengals, though: They lose the Super Bowl to the Dallas Cowboys. 

“Dak and Burrow put on respective offensive masterclasses, each throwing three touchdowns as the two teams enter the fourth quarter in a 24-24 tie,” Bailey wrote. “Prescott throws his fourth touchdown of the game to Jake Ferguson with 6:53 to play. On the ensuing drive, as Cincinnati is on the brink of a score of their own, a Burrow pass is tipped in the air and snagged by Caleb Downs. Two first downs later, the Cowboys have finally ended their championship drought with a 31-24 win.”

A fitting Super Bowl, at least, considering the Cowboys are often considered the “Bengals of the NFC” in terms of their old-school mentality to roster building and overall management structure. 

Of course, the Bengals have modernized greatly over the last few years, which dramatically ups the chances they see a Super Bowl again with Burrow. 

Obviously, Bengals fans would like to see projections that have them winning it all. But even being in the conversation in July is a pretty good sign of how solid the offseason was for the franchise.
