LeBron James has finally made his latest decision and has agreed to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. In doing so he has joined another historic franchise. The 76ers have won the third-most regular season games in NBA history behind the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers. They’ve won three championships, though they haven’t won since 1983 and one of those came while they were still the Syracuse Nationals.

They also have employed some of the greatest players in NBA history. A 76ers all-time team would match up favorably against any other franchise’s best. Here are some of the best ever to play in Philadelphia

Charles Barkley

Philly Stats: 23.3 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists 1.7 steals, 1.0 blocks in 8 seasons

The 76ers drafted Barkley with the No. 5 pick in 1984. He was an MVP candidate by his second season and led the NBA in rebounding in his third. He was a six-time All-Star in Philadelphia before they traded him to the Phoenix Suns in 1992.

Wilt Chamberlain

Philly Stats: 27.6 points, 23.9 rebounds, 6.8 assists in 4 seasons

There’s a reason if you want to beat 82-0 you need Wilt Chamberlain. He won three straight MVP awards as a member of the 76ers and helped the team win their first championship in Philadelphia in 1967. He also scored 100 points in a game in Pennsylvania, but that was in Hershey when he was playing for the Warriors. He also has the most rebounds in NBA history.

Allen Iverson

Philly Stats: 27.6 points, 6.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals in 12 seasons

Iverson was the No. 1 pick in the 1996 NBA draft. He won Rookie of the Year and then MVP in his fifth season as he carried the 76ers to their first NBA Finals since 1983. He was All-NBA seven times, led the league in scoring four times and in steals three other. He still has one of the coolest jerseys in NBA history.

Moses Malone

Philly Stats: 21 points, 12 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, 0.9 steals in 5 seasons

From 1982 to 1986 he won MVP and led the team in scoring and rebounding during the team’s last run to a title. He led the league in rebounding three times during that stretch and then returned for one year late in his career to be on the same roster with Manute Bol and Shawn Bradley.

Chet Walker

Philly Stats: 16.2 points, 7.9 rebounds in 7 seasons

Walker was a second-round pick in 1962 and made three All-Star teams in Philadelphia. He was a member of the ’66-’67 championship team.

Julius Erving

Philly Stats: 22 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.8 steals, 1.5 blocks in 11 seasons

The New York Nets sold the rights to Julius Erving to Philadelphia in 1976. After five years in the ABA, Erving played his entire 11-year NBA career in Philadelphia. He was an All-Star in every one of them. He was the MVP in 1981 and was second on the team in scoring and rebounding when they won the title in 1983. He also pulled off one of the most iconic moves in NBA history while wearing the Sixers jersey.

Dolph Schayes

Philly Stats: 18.5 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists in 15 seasons

Schayes was drafted by the BAA’s New York Knicks and NBL’s Tri-Cities Blackhawks, who traded him to the Syracuse Nationals in 1948. He played 14 years in Syracuse before the team moved to Philadelphia where he only averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in his final season. He made 12 All-NBA teams in Syracuse and was a 12-time NBA All-Star.

Maurice Cheeks

Philly Stats: 12.2 points, 7.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals

Cheeks was a second-round pick in 1978. He was a five-time All-Defensive Team player in Philadelphia and core member of the championship team in ’82-’83.

Hal Greer

Philly Stats: 19.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists in 15 seasons

A member of the ’66-’67 championship team, Hal Greer was second team All-NBA six times in Philadelphia. He also made seven All-Star teams. He was already on the team when they moved from Syracuse and averaged 19.2 points, five rebounds and four assists in 15 years with the franchise.
