Birmingham sell defender Wagner back to Philadelphia
Birmingham City have agreed to sell defender Kai Wagner back to Major Soccer League side Philadelphia Union six months after he joined Blues.
The 29-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee in January after spending seven years in Philadelphia.
In his short stay at St Andrew's, he started 16 games in the Championship last season and played twice in the FA Cup, where he scored his only goal for the club in a third-round win at Cambridge United.
Blues said in talks with the full-back over the last few weeks, Wagner had "expressed a desire to return to the United States with his family for personal reasons" and had reached an agreement with Philadelphia that "satisfied all parties".
Birmingham boss Chris Davies said he was "disappointed" to lose Wagner but fully respects" his wishes and "understands that family has to come first".
