Caitlin Clark Close to a Suspension After Getting Into Fiery Exchange with Sun’s Saniya Rivers

Caitlin Clark is on the edge of a suspension midway through the WNBA season.

The 24-year-old WNBA star was handed her seventh technical foul of the season on Wednesday, July 22 after an on-court exchange with Connecticut Sun guard Saniya Rivers.

Rivers, 23, and Clark got into it during the third quarter of the Fever’s blowout win. With the score favoring Indiana by 28 points, Clark and Rivers began exchanging words when Clark told Rivers to check the “scoreboard.” Rivers was handed a technical foul as well for her part in the exchange.

WNBA players are suspended for a single game once they’ve reached eight technicals in one season.

After the game, Clark told reporters her version of the incident. “She said she was locking me up, so I said, ‘Scoreboard,’ and the ref didn’t like that,” she said.

The Fever star was also asked about the possible suspension and how she’ll approach physicality going forward this season. Clark said, “I can’t predict the future” and joked, “You got to ask a magic eight ball.”

When her teammate Kelsey Mitchell started laughing, Clark smiled and said, “It’s not funny.”

She continued, “I think just continue to try to control your emotions the best you can. That intensity and that fire is what makes me me, but also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that. But I don’t think I’m going to be playing with that in the back of my head.”

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Clark leads the league for most technical fouls this season alongside Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese.

Clark had 27 points and 11 assists in the Fever’s win. Next, she’ll compete in the WNBA All-Star Game in Chicago alongside A’ja Wilson, Olivia Miles and her Fever teammate Aliyah Boston.
