Cameron Carr and Adou Thiero will play for summer Lakers on Friday

The Los Angeles Lakers' first game of the NBA's main summer league in Las Vegas will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. Pacific time versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. They already took part in the California Classic, and Cameron Carr, the No. 24 pick in last month's draft, looked excellent.

He was consistently hot from 3-point range, and he also flashed his superb athleticism with a couple of dunks. However, his final game in the California Classic was more of a struggle, and he didn't even play in the second half of that contest.

Incoming second-year forward Adou Thiero didn't play at all in that same contest due to a wrist ailment. Lakers summer league coach Ty Abbott said Carr was held out after halftime due to a toe issue, but that both Carr and Thiero will play on Friday, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN. Carr himself said that he's over that toe ailment.

It's very early, but Carr is already looking like a steal and perhaps even one of the best players in what is one of the best rookie classes in years. The Lakers originally had the No. 25 pick in this year's draft, but they swapped that pick for the No. 24 selection, which was owned by the New York Knicks.

While Los Angeles has ample guard depth, Carr could perhaps start to break into its rotation as a rookie if what he has shown so far transfers to the big leagues.

Thiero had a rough rookie year, as he dealt with injury problems and a lack of playing time. His offensive game still looks very unrefined, but he can attack the basket and finish strong, as well as draw fouls and help on the boards. He plays with lots of energy and possesses explosive athleticism, which gives the 6-foot-7, 220-pound 22-year-old the potential to become a good defender.
