Whilst the supporters have been waiting in angst and agony for any signs of movement from the Parkhead powerbrokers regarding transfers, Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano yesterday delivered an unexpected and most welcome update in this area…

The Celtic supporters have been continuously scanning the media for any possible incomings to date to no avail, after the signing of Camilo Duran from FC Qarabag in Azerbaijan for around £5.5 million. After that, it had all gone quiet on the transfer front, as the Bhoys have been conspicuously silent in terms of players being brought into the club this window.

Then news has broke that Celtic have made an official enquiry for Egyptian winger Haissem Hassan and that he is viewed inside the club as the departing Daizen Maeda’s replacement, as he fulfils his English Premier League dream by sealing a £10 million move to Ipswich Town, in what is a major blow for Martin O’Neill and his backroom team. No-one at Celtic has any right to grudge Daizen his dream move to the Premier League and he leaves with his Celtic legacy assured.

Whilst that has been rumbling on, news has emerged from Italy via journalist and transfer expert Romano, who claims that terms have been successfully negotiated with German star Mika Baur. The 22-year-old midfielder is happy to sign on at the Hoops it seems, but Celtic still have to come to an agreement with the engine-room operators club SC Paderborn.

Apparently, the central midfielder is a highly-rated and sought after commodity in German football, meaning the Hoops will have to move quickly and swiftly to secure a deal, which will be easier said than done for the current CEO Michael Nicholson and his partner Chris McKay. Both have shown their astounding lack of ability and success in the transfer market to date, so we shouldn’t count our chickens just yet.

However, this update is better than no news at all. Hopefully it’s sorted pronto and we can get on with vastly improving this dilapidated playing squad. Can we expect second and third puffs of white smoke over Paradise this week? Let’s hope so.
