Chase Burns gave Kyle Schwarber a 'hard time' at MLB All-Star Game
PHILADELPHIA − Given the opportunity to speak directly with the Philadelphia Phillies' Kyle Schwarber about not signing with the Cincinnati Reds, Chase Burns took full advantage.
Burns and Schwarber are sharing a clubhouse for several days during the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia as National League All-Stars. Asked who he'd had the opportunity to speak with, Burns said he connected with Schwarber. Then, Burns volunteered that he broached the subject of the Reds' offseason offer to bring Schwarber, then a free-agent, to Cincinnati.
"I met Schwarber. I gave him a hard time for not signing with the Reds," Burns said.
Burns indicated the exchange was likely light-hearted, almost revealing the details of the conversation before catching himself.
Through laughter and then a pause, Burns said: "That’s between me and him."
Schwarber and the Phillies visited Cincinnati July 7-9 and took two of three games. Schwarber homered in the series opener and then in the middle game, which Burns won to improve to 11-1 on the year.
Schwarber went 0-for-2 against Burns with a walk but cranked a home run in the ninth inning.
