The Los Angeles Clippers' perimeter just received a significant boost ahead of the 2026-27 season.
According to an official press release, the Clippers signed a former Los Angeles Lakers elite 6-foot-7 sharpshooter who drew interest from the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs as a free agent.
“The LA Clippers have signed forward Rui Hachimura, it was announced by Lawrence Frank, President of Basketball Operations,” the Wednesday night press release stated.
“Rui is an elite three-point shooter and an efficient mid-range scorer who uses his size to exploit mismatches,” said Frank. “He will strengthen our frontcourt with his one-on-one defense and ability to space the floor. Rui is also a well-liked and respected teammate who continues to grow his game. We’re excited to add him.”
When ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the deal on Wednesday morning, he revealed that Hachimura turned down contract offers from the Warriors, Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Brooklyn Nets, proving the veteran forward was all-in on joining the Clippers this summer.
Hachimura is coming off a postseason in which he shot the ball better from beyond the arc than most of the other playoff contributors around the league. The Gonzaga product averaged 17.5 points per game while connecting on 54.9% of his field goals and 56.9% from three-point land. (only Spencer Jones, Jamison Battle, Kelly Olynyk, and Royce O’Neale boasted higher long-range shooting percentages).
Hachimura, who notched 44.3% of his triples during the regular season, should continue his three-point sniping ways with the Clippers.
