In Jeremy Fowler's annual top safety rankings, the Indianapolis Colts' Cam Bynum was not mentioned.

What makes Fowler's rankings unique is that they are constructed with the input of 70 NFL execs, coaches, and scouts as the voters. Other elements, such as research, interviews, and film analysis by Matt Bowen, factor in as well.

With all that taken into account, Fowler then compiles the top 10, highlights a few honorable mentions, and notes which players received votes.

Bynum's name, however, was nowhere to be found.

Cam Bynum's impact on the Colts' defense

Bynum came to the Colts with impressive ball production during his time with the Vikings, and that was on display in Year 1 with Indianapolis. Bynum would log four interceptions and three pass breakups.

Quarterbacks had a passer rating of just 66.3 when targeting him. He was also a very sound tackler, making 79 of his 84 attempts, which made him a stout run defender from the safety position.

Bynum adds versatility to the back end of the Colts' defense, able to fill a variety of roles. That, along with his ability to impact both the run and passing games, gives defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo flexibility as he builds out game plans, and that do-it-all skill set pairs well with his disguise-heavy scheme.

Beyond his production, Bynum plays a key role on the back end, making sure everyone is positioned correctly, communicating responsibilities, and calling out adjustments.

Bynum may not have been mentioned in this year's rankings, but he plays a vital role in the Colts' defense.
