Commanders' Amik Robertson embracing leadership role

Washington Commanders cornerback Amik Robertson spent his first four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders and his last two seasons with the Detroit Lions. He's often had to work hard to earn a starting role, but this year is different. He's been in the league for six years, and he's embracing his role as a veteran.

Robertson hosts an annual youth football camp in Louisiana, where he was asked what he is excited about for the upcoming season.

"To embrace the role that God put me in, as a Washington Commander. Of course I'm going to work my tail off. My goal this year is to embrace my role. I kind of took a step back at the Lions; I didn't want to step on a lot of guys' toes. But I think at the Commanders, I think it's my time. It's my time to take on that leadership role. That secondary is young. I've been through the highs, and I've been through the lows; my mindset is neutral. I just can't wait to go there and be the best teammate I can be, elevate the room, and let everything take care of itself."

In 2025, Robertson had his best career season with 52 tackles (43 solo), two forced fumbles, one interception, and 12 passes defensed. He's somewhat undersized at 5-foot-9 and 183 pounds, but he makes up for that size with talent and a high football IQ.

We'll get to see the impact he makes soon enough. The Commanders' rookies report for training camp on July 24, with veterans arriving on July 28.
