Cristiano Ronaldo fans force Bruno Fernandes to protect social media after Portugal’s World Cup exit
Portugal’s under-fire star midfielder decided to protect his peace after making a statement on X addressing the national team’s FIFA World Cup exit.
Fernandes came into the World Cup after shattering the Premier League’s all-time assists record and winning the PFA Player of the Year.
However, his struggles as Cristiano Ronaldo’s potentially last World Cup ended in a Round of 16 exit have prompted him to protect his social media from aggressive fanboys.
Bruno Fernandes disables comments on World Cup exit statement on X
Fernandes shared a message with the world after Portugal’s exit, as criticism mounted for the part he played in their disappointing World Cup finish.
“Sad, frustrated, and disillusioned. This group of players made my expectations high, not only for the quality, but also for the fact of the incredible group that we built over these years. Thank you to all the players, the technical team, and all the staff who accompanied and helped us every day during the World Cup. To all the Portuguese, a huge thank you for your support and belief.”
This was a carefully-worded message from Fernandes, who is among the many star Portuguese midfielders to have been attacked by fanboys on social media for ruining Ronaldo’s World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo fans are angry with Bruno Fernandes’ actions
Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, words about the midfielders not feeding Cristiano up front motivated CR7 fans to personally harass national team members and their families on social media, likely explaining why Fernandes limited replies on his post.
Nonetheless, fans were free to share his post with their thoughts, and they weren’t nice about it.
“There’s a reason he turned off his comments. He knows what he did,” said one Ronaldo fan account.
“Open the comments, bro. We just want to chat,” said an angry fan.
“This bum sabotaged Ronaldo because he wants to be the face of Portugal. Yet he can’t even handle Twitter comments. Useless,” said another fan.
“Ronaldo’s final legacy is his teammates turning off comments or staying off social media because his fans are hounding them and their families. What a way to go out,” said one non-Ronaldo fan watching the fallout.
“Comments off. Dead rubber world champion can’t even handle the pressure of Twitter,” said a fan.
