Everyone knows what Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams bring to Detroit’s offense. The bigger question entering 2026 is whether Isaac Teslaa is ready to become the Lions’ next breakout weapon.

Detroit clearly believed in his potential. The Lions traded two third-round picks to move up in the 2025 NFL Draft and select Teslaa, a decision that was heavily criticized at the time. Many questioned why Detroit would invest another premium pick at wide receiver, but Teslaa wasted little time proving why the organization valued him so highly.

His NFL debut featured one of the most memorable first touchdown catches by a rookie in recent history. Teslaa made a spectacular one-handed, back-shoulder grab while dragging both feet in bounds for a touchdown against the Packers. Although Detroit lost 27-13, the catch extended the Lions’ streak of consecutive games with a touchdown, which had been alive since Oct. 23, 2022. He followed that performance the next week with another impressive one-handed sideline reception against the Bears, immediately showcasing the elite ball skills that made him such an intriguing prospect.

Teslaa’s rookie statistics won’t jump off the page, but his efficiency certainly will. He caught 16 of his 27 targets for 239 yards and six touchdowns, tying for 26th in the NFL in receiving scores despite playing behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Jahmyr Gibbs. He quickly established himself as a legitimate red-zone threat, using his size, body control and strong hands to consistently win in contested situations.

His impact wasn’t limited to the passing game. Teslaa also developed into one of Detroit’s better blocking receivers, a trait that earned the trust of the coaching staff and increased his role as the season progressed. Over the final three games, he effectively took over as the Lions’ WR3, catching two touchdowns during that span. His best outing came against the Steelers, where he recorded four receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Head coach Dan Campbell repeatedly praised Teslaa’s growth throughout the season.

“He’s done a real good job and has probably grown more than anybody has throughout the year for our young guys,” Campbell said. “He’s smart, he’s instinctive, he’s tough and he’s a finisher.”

Campbell also credited Teslaa for handling multiple responsibilities within the offense, adding that he “broke through that rookie wall and kept going.”

With Kalif Raymond no longer on the roster, Teslaa enters 2026 as the favorite to claim Detroit’s full-time WR3 role. Surrounded by St. Brown, Williams and Jahmyr Gibbs, defenses will have little choice but to devote attention elsewhere. That could create plenty of one-on-one opportunities for Teslaa, especially in the red zone, where he already proved to be one of the Lions’ most dangerous weapons as a rookie.

If his first season was any indication, Teslaa has all the tools to become one of Detroit’s biggest breakout players in 2026.
