Detroit Lions place both starting safeties on PUP list
The Detroit Lions are set to report to training camp this upcoming week, but at least three players are not quite ready to go.
The Lions announced on Sunday, July 26 that safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph and tight end Tyler Conklin will start camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Branch starting on the PUP list is hardly a surprise. The starting safety suffered a torn Achilles in December.
Joseph, another starting safety, has been dealing with a knee injury that caused him to miss the last 11 games last season. His placement on the list is a small surprise given Joseph posted on X on Saturday, "How much yall wanna bet im not on there" in response to the upcoming announcement of the list.
Conklin, meanwhile, had an undisclosed injury during spring practices.
Players can be removed from the PUP list at any time. But if they remain on the list throughout training camp and through roster cut downs, they move to the reserve/PUP list and must miss at least the first four games of the season.
Lions veterans report to training camp on Tuesday, July 28, with practices starting the next day.
