Detroit Tigers trade minor-league pitcher Matt Seelinger to Mets
The Detroit Tigers traded minor league pitcher Matt Seelinger to the New York Mets for cash considerations on Monday, July 6, as confirmed by the Mets.
Seelinger, 31, joined the Tigers organization ahead of the 2024 season and has pitched for the last three seasons at Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. Seelinger has pitched in 27 games so far for Toledo in 2026 (all but one in relief), putting up a 3.89 ERA over 39⅓ innings.
Seelinger was not on the Tigers' 40-man roster. The righty is a native of New York and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2017. He has played for five MLB franchises and has not appeared in the majors.
This is the second minor league pitcher the Tigers have traded for cash in the last couple of days, with Detroit trading Triple-A righty Woo-Suk Go to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, July 5.
