Diego Pavia waived by Ravens 1 week before training camp

Diego Pavia, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens after becoming the first Heisman finalist since 2014 to go undrafted, is a free agent once again. The Ravens announced Thursday that Pavia has been waived.

The move comes one week before Baltimore’s training camp, which begins on July 29. Per the team, Pavia was waived to make room for veteran center Ethan Pocic.

Pavia, a JUCO QB-turned-surprise SEC hotshot at Vanderbilt, finished second in the 2025 Heisman voting behind No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. But concerns about his size, his age (Pavia turned 24 in February) and his attitude — evident in the way he responded to Mendoza’s win — led him to go unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

As an undrafted free agent, Pavia agreed to join the Ravens’ minicamp before later signing a three-year deal with the team. Pavia was competing to be the team’s third-string quarterback, behind Lamar Jackson and veteran backup Tyler Huntley.

With Pavia out, veteran Skylar Thompson and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano out of UConn will continue to battle for that QB3 spot, while Pavia will hope to sign with another quarterback-needy team.
