Dillon Mitchell on emphasizing 3-pointer with Boston Celtics in Las Vegas Summer League
One could be easily forgiven for being skeptical of the NBA future of a prospective player who shot just 6.7 percent from beyond the arc in their last season playing at the college level making it in the NBA. And that seemed to be the take on the Boston Celtics No. 40 overall pick of the 2026 NBA Draft, Dillon Mitchell, when Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and company elected to take him in the second round.
But since then, the Tampa, Florida native has shown he can in fact hit a 3-point shot at a respectable rate at least with the Sin City Celtics at the NBA's 2026 Las Vegas Summer League. "I've always been confident," said Mitchell via CLNS Media. "I always try to make winning plays. So if there's some teams that I'm on where I don't need to be shooting, I need to try to get to other things, that's what I'm going to do."
"And in this case, they want me to be comfortable and confident in shooting the ball as far as all the other things I do as well," he added. "So I've always had the confidence about going out there and hearing them have the confidence in me as well and going out there and playing my game."
"(...) Me and Chris (Cenac Jr.) landed in Boston after the draft, and we got straight to work," said Mitchell. "And that says a lot about the culture and what they're looking out of me and Chris, developing us, trying to get everything they can out of us."
"It's been great as far as the development. That's one of the biggest things with both of us as far as being rookies, about developing. We want to have long careers, and we're not here to try to be superstars right from the jump. It's just about developing and getting better every day."
