Eagles Can Only Trade Jalen Carter Under One Condition

If the Philadelphia Eagles planned to trade Jalen Carter, though I don't want to say that it absolutely would be the worst move ever, I think it's important to recognize that first-round picks and draft assets aren't always as promising as they seem. 

Of course, the Eagles can luck out and find a player who is really good in the draft if they were to land a few first-round picks for Carter, though what are the chances that said players are actually as good as the former Georgia star?

That's the question I think the Eagles have to answer, though for now the more important part is what they could get back for Carter if they decide to move on from him. 

According to one writer, it could be a lot, but it might not be as much as some think.

“The Cleveland Browns just got two first-round picks (the Rams' 2027 and Jared Verse) plus a second-round pick and a third-round pick for Myles freakin' Garrett, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year coming off one of the most dominant years by a defensive player ever.

“The New York Giants got one first, albeit No. 10 overall, from the Cincinnati Bengals for Dexter Lawrence, an older yet far-more-consistent player than Carter. The Dallas Cowboys got two firsts plus Kenny Clark for three-time All-Pro and perennial DPOY candidate Micah Parsons. So Roseman can hold out for two firsts and pull the trigger if a rival club offers that. In fact, he may be doing that right now, since Carter is still on his rookie deal before playing out his fifth-year option in 2027,” Pat Pickens wrote.

I'd like to think that if Howie Roseman decided to move on from Carter, as Pickens touched on here, he could end up with two first-round picks. 

Again, just as Pickens said, there's no guarantee that's going to happen, which could be part of why Philadelphia hasn't traded him.

This is a really interesting story to follow and, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it's going to slow down anytime soon.
