Fans offered support for Dick Vitale after concerning health update
College basketball hasn't been the same without Dick Vitale regularly working games on TV. But after being declared cancer free last year, the 86-year-old legendary announcer made his return to broadcasting last season — and even worked the First Four with Charles Barkley.
His latest health update, though, might put his broadcasting return on pause once again.
In a statement through ESPN PR exec Josh Krulewitz, Vitale revealed that doctors identified areas of concern in his latest scans and ordered a biopsy for additional testing. Vitale had battled multiple cancer diagnoses over the past few years and was declared cancer free in 2025.
