Final mock draft projection for LSU baseball star Derek Curiel
The MLB Draft begins at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday with rounds one through four. Several media outlets filed their last mock drafts in the waning hours of Friday and one former LSU Baseball star is looking like a lock for the first round.
Derek Curiel landed inside the top 15 overall picks as projected by ESPN and The Athletic. Both outlets considered the center fielder a high first-rounder for much of the buildup to the draft. It hasn't changed over the final stretch before the big day.
ESPN's Kiley McDaniel slots Curiel at No. 11 overall to the Washington Nationals, making him the third outfielder taken. The Athletic's Keith Law put Curiel at No. 15 overall to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He would be the fourth outfielder off the board.
Curiel leaves Baton Rouge after two standout years. He started in left field as a freshman and in center field as a sophomore while maintaining.a spot in the top half of the batting order. He batted .349 with a .975 OPS, 171 hits, 131 runs and 101 RBI over his LSU career.
