Emam Ashour, the flawed genius. Could he be the spark to ignite our side?

Celtic have been heavily credited with an interest in Haissem Hassan, but just recently we’ve been linked with his Egyptian International teammate, with the man in question being Emam Ashour of Al Ahly.

According to several outlets it’s believed that Celtic are pushing hard to conclude a deal which would see the club pay £4 million for the versatile attacking player, with his salary said not to be an issue.

Ashour who scored twice for the Egyptians at the World Cup is considered to be one of the most talented players in Egyptian football, and Celtic along with the likes of Brighton, West Ham, and Derby County said to be interested in acquiring the 28 year old.

The 34 times capped player who had a short spell with Danish side Midtjylland in 2023 has been one of the stars of the Egyptian football scene for quite some time, making his name with both Zamalek, winning the Egyptian Premier League with both clubs, as well as winning the CAF Champions League, and as well as the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup with his current club.

For all his talent, it’s said that Ashour is something of a ‘flawed genius’ due to his well documented disciplinary issues on and off the pitch, which has seen him receive record fines by his club, as well as a suspended jail term by the Egyptian authorities!

But for all his troubles he’s undoubtedly a class act on the park, and one that be the spark we are needing to ignite our low on quality squad. Eman is a player of great ability who can operate anywhere across the front three, as well as fill the attacking midfield void. A real crowd pleaser, something we’ve been lacking in recent years.

However, at 28 Ashour is more mature and now ready to prove his talent on the European front, and quite possibly that club could be Celtic. Where better?
