Former Lady Vol leads Sparks in scoring ahead of WNBA all-star break
Phoenix (10-18) defeated Los Angeles (10-16), 86-82, Wednesday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Former Tennessee women's basketball Rae Burrell started and played 34 minutes for the Sparks in their final game before the all-star break.
She led Los Angeles with 20 points. Burrell also totaled three rebounds and two assists. She converted 7-of-16 field goal attempts, 3-of-7 three-point attempts and 3-of-5 free throw attempts.
Dearica Hamby scored 18 points for Los Angeles, while Ariel Atkins finished with 15 points. Kahleah Copper led the Mercury with 21 points, while Alyssa Thomas finished with 19 points.
Burrell played at Tennessee from 2018-22. She appeared in 110 games, including 47 starts, and averaged 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 22.6 minutes per contest. At Tennessee, Burrell was named to the 2021-22 USA TODAY Preseason All-America Third Team.
She was selected by Los Angeles in the first round of the 2022 WNBA draft (No. 9 overall).
