Former NBA champion doubts Golden State's status as contenders

Former Warrior and 2019 NBA champion Jeremy Lin recently spoke about the Golden State's chances to contend next season, even if they were able to win the LeBron James sweepstakes this summer.

"That's not a championship-contending team, even with LeBron. I don't see them beating OKC; I don't see them beating San Antonio unless there are some serious injuries. I think they need some youth, some energy; they need some burst. They need multiple guys who are young and can bring a lot of energy."

Although competing against the Thunder and Spurs is a concern, James is the top free agent available and seems like the last chance to build another contender around former two-time MVP Stephen Curry at the moment. Following James' decision, Golden State can weigh potential trades, as the team holds first-round picks from 2027 to 2029 and then 2031 to 2033.

Possible trade targets for Golden State include two players previously linked to the franchise, Trey Murphy III and Michael Porter Jr.
