Former Sioux Falls Roosevelt Roosevelt standout Jack Radel was taken in the first round, 28th overall, by the Houston Astros in the 2026 MLB Draft.

Radel spent the last three seasons at Notre Dame, throwing 211 innings to a 3.71 ERA. He became an ace in the ACC this season, throwing 87.2 innings with 116 strikeouts and a 3.29 ERA.

He was a First Team All-ACC selection in 2026, and a Third Team All-American for D1Baseball and Perfect Game. The Sioux Falls native also made the ABCA/Rawlings Midwest All-Region First Team, the ACC Championship All-Tournament Team, the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List and was the ACC Pitcher of the Week twice in his junior year.

Notre Dame pitcher Jack Radel (25) pitches to Clemson during the bottom of the first inning at Doug Kingsmore Stadum in Clemson, S.C. Friday, March 14, 2025.

The Astros had the No. 29 farm system before the season, according to MLB Pipeline. Houston is currently 46-50, sitting three games out of the AL West lead and 1.5 games out of an AL Wild Card spot.

It's the second consecutive year a former Sioux Falls Roosevelt player went in the first round, with Marcus Phillips going 33rd overall to the Boston Red Sox in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Radel and Phillips were also on the Sioux Falls little league team that made it to Williamsport in 2017.
