Georgia Bulldogs are college football's youngest team

The Georgia Bulldogs are expected to compete for an SEC championship with a spry roster this season. According to RotoWire, Georgia is the youngest team in the nation, with an average age of just 19.81.

One big reason why Georgia is so young is because the Bulldogs consistently have juniors leave for the NFL draft. Georgia relies on recruiting and developing players more than the transfer portal, so that helps keep Georgia's average age down.

Looking at their starting roster, it makes a lot of sense. They have several true sophomores expected to start: Elijah Griffin (DT), Juan Gaston (T), and Dontrell Glover (G) are big pieces of the Georgia puzzle this season. Freshman Zykie Helton is expected to start at the other guard spot. Georgia also has several redshirt sophomore starters, such as DeMello Jones (CB), Ellis Robinson IV (CB), and Sacovie White-Helton (WR).

That also doesn't include the several other freshmen who could see significant snaps. Obviously, there's Helton, but Kaiden Prothro (TE) and Ekene Ogboko (T) are the next men up behind their respective positions. The benefit of having so much youth at each position is that there's more time to develop them.

There are two other SEC teams in the top 10 youngest teams in the country, with Texas at No. 4 (19.86 years old on average) and Tennessee at No. 10 (19.92). Outside of that, USC is the only team in the top 10 that is from the Power Four. The Trojans are tied for No. 6 (19.87).
