Green Wave clinches District 6 title

The Oneonta Green Wave clinched the 2026 District 6 regular season league title with 4-2 win at Norwich on Tuesday, July 14.

The Wave finished with a 10-1 league record, 13-3 overall. Hillcrest-1194 came in second place with a 9-2 league record.

The Green Wave will battle Hillcrest-1194 in the best-of-three championship series this weekend at Conlon Field in Binghamton. Game 1 is at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 18. Game 2 will be at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 19, with Game 3 at 7 p.m., Sunday, if needed.

Both teams will advance to the double-elimination, eight-team state tournament in Rochester beginning Friday July 24. The winner will advance as the District 6 champion and the loser will qualify as the wild-card entry.

Tuesday, Britten Zeh earned the win, pitching a one-hitter during five scoreless innings, while striking out 10 and walking no batters.

Grayson Brockington tossed the final two innings to notch the save, his third of the season.

Andrew Brechner's RBI single in the top of the first inning proved to be the big hit, giving the Green Wave an early 2-0 lead in support of Zeh.

Xander Johnson and Aiden Wamsley each had two hits.

Oneonta places second at Gil Wood

Newburgh topped Oneonta twice, but the Green Wave placed second in the Gil Wood Broome County Hall of Fame Classic at Conlon Field in Binghamton last week.

Oneonta lost in the championship game to Newburgh, 12-5, Sunday, July 12. Jameson Brown led offense, going 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

Earlier in the day, Oneonta beat Kingston/Saugerties in the semifinal, 2-1.

Brady Carr led the offense with two hits, including a double. He also got the win in a one-hit shutout, going 6.2 innings while striking out six.

Jameson Brown took over on the mound during a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning. He recorded the final out on a lazy fly ball to notch the save.

Brown also had a clutch RBI single in the third inning.

Nate Woytach had two hits including an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Friday, July 10, Oneonta beat Clinton County, 4-3. Xander Johnson improved to 5-0 this summer with eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings. He also had two hits, including the game-winning RBI.

Andrew Brechner got the final out and the save. He also had two hits and three RBI. Zeh had two hits.

On Thursday, July 9, Oneonta beat Hillcrest, 9-8, but lost to Newburgh, 6-5.

Against Hillcrest, Carr went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Brown, Johnson and Brody Matthews all had two hits.

Against Newburgh, Carr had two hits, including a home run and Zeh homered and had three RBI.
